My Dad would have been 52 today. He died just under a year ago after a short battle with cancer.
I’m saying this because part of the reason for us taking this trip is to walk in his footsteps and honour him.
He fell in love with india, and over the course of 10 years went 5 or 6 times to his favourite country.
It wasn’t always easy while he was there, he had to be flown home after some serious altitude sickness in the Himalayas, on the same trekking trip he met some Maoist rebels who wouldn’t let him pass without payment. Another time he came home early due to the intense heat.
Despite these stories he loved the people, the culture, the religions, the colour. He met a family who own a guesthouse in Kerala who he always spoke fondly of and visited whenever he was in the country.
We’ll be making that journey to Kerala from Delhi over the course of 2 months, travelling throughout India to stay with the same family and follow in his footsteps.
